British Wildlife Photography Awards

The following contains news of some new 2010 categories and some new sponsors, and
some of the prizes.

The 2010 competition opened in January with these new categories:
1) International Year of Biodiversity, sponsored by Natural England
2) Wildlife in my Backyard, sponsored by Countryside Council for Wales
3) The 2020 Vision Special Award, sponsored by the Wild Media Foundation
4) British Seasons

2009 Awards Exhibition Tour
The 2009 exhibition featuring: winning, commended and ‘best of entries’
from the 2009 competition, launched in London last year, is now on show in
the Riding School at Calke Abbey, Derbyshire until 28 March 2010. The
exhibition will be open Saturday to Wednesday 11am to 4pm which falls in
line with the house and garden open days.
Calke Park is a rich and varied landscape, from rolling grassland to
ancient oaks, some as old as 1000 years. The park extends to over 600 acres
and was designated as a National Nature Reserve in recognition of its wood

1) Adult Awards and Prizes
British Wildlife Photographer - prize £5,000
Category prizes - value £1,000
BWPA are delighted to welcome the RSPB as a sponsor and they will be giving
each category winner a pair of RSPB (10.5 x 42 WPG) binoculars.
BWPA have teamed up with leading wildlife photographer Heather Angel who
will be giving a unique ‘one to one’ full day’s masterclass as part
of each category prize. Plus a specialist and tailor made ‘one to one’
full day photoshop course with Giles Angel.

2) Young Awards and Prizes
The Young Wildlife Photographer prize is £500, and is sponsored by
Towergate Camerasure
BWPA are also delighted to welcome Serif who are sponsoring the Schools,
Youth and Community Group Award. The prize for the best school youth or
community group is Serif Design Suite - value £3,000 (a copy of the Serif
Design Suite for each of the contributors (£149)* which contains 5
software titles covering; graphics, photo editing, digital video, DTP and
web design. The school or organisation will receive a 50 User License on
the Serif Design Suite (£2,199) and a Digital Video camera (£149)
*Maximum of 5 individual copies of the software for the winning entrants).

Exhibition and Book
Along with a series of nationwide photographic exhibitions launching at
Hoopers Gallery, London (on 14th October 2010), all winning, commended and
‘the best of entries’ will be included in an accompanying full colour
book with around 180 images.
