England riots: One photographer's baptism of fire

When photographer Lewis Whyld of the Press Association arrived on Tottenham High Street on 6 August, the first and fiercest night of this summer's riots, he soon saw three other photographers being attacked. For the next hour he was forced to shoot on his mobile phone, and only pulled out his cameras once it was dark.
Shooting by the light of the police helicopter searchlight, Whyld captured these images that went right round the world. Here Whyld reveals how he documented a night of unrest in north London.

The marriage of Wills and Kate is only hours away and your invite to be the royal wedding official photographer did not arrive then! Well Mario Testino, favoured at one stage to get the job, didn’t get it either eventhough he took this beautiful engagement images of the couple!

Official photographer for the day is Hugo Burnand. Hugo has been working with the royal family for years. For all of you ‘teccy-heads’ out there, on the day Hugo will be using a Hasselblad H4D-50 - a 50-million-pixel medium-format DSLR. A camera that will set you back the best part of £25,000 - with a lens of course!

Born in Cannes, France on 24th Sept 1963 and Harrow educated, Burnand is a world famous photographer who has worked at Tatler Magazine since 1993. Hugo Burnand’s step-mother Ursy Burnand was also a photographer in her own right, nurturing Hugo’s photographic skills from a very early age. Hugo Burnand has photographed many famous people and in 2005 he was the official photographer for the marriage of Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles, whom he was commissioned to take the official 60th birthday portrait of too - you can see these images on his website.

2010 BWPA Exhibition

The current exhibition of the 2010 Awards, around eighty images, is currently on display at the stunning National Trust property Penrhyn Castle in North Wales. It will be there until 5th June. For opening hours please check their website.

BWPA is delighted to announce that the 2011 British Wildlife Phototgraphy Awards will be presented at WildlifeXpo, the UK's new major wildlife exhibition.

The full BWPA 2011 photography exhibition of around eighty images - winners and commended entries - will be on display.

WildlifeXpo will be held at Alexandra Palace, London on the 14th and 15th of October 2011, with a wide range of talks and lectures from presenters such as Mark Carwardine and David Lindo. Talks include:

With the continuing increase in mobile device usage and number of visitors visiting the main website from such devices, they feel this will be a useful addition to the service we provide. 2009 Awards Exhibition Tour
The 2009 exhibition featuring: winning, commended and ‘best of entries’
from the 2009 competition, launched in London last year, is now on show in
the Riding School at Calke Abbey, Derbyshire until 28 March 2010. The
exhibition will be open Saturday to Wednesday 11am to 4pm which falls in
line with the house and garden open days.
Calke Park is a rich and varied landscape, from rolling grassland to
ancient oaks, some as old as 1000 years. The park extends to over 600 acres
and was designated as a National Nature Reserve in recognition of its wood
